A more focused Speaking test room

The redesigned Speaking room keeps the examiner, current question, recording state, and timing easy to follow. Part 2 preparation tools and an optional private camera preview make practice feel closer to a live interview.

The Speaking test room has been rebuilt around the rhythm of an IELTS interview, so you can spend less time managing controls and more time shaping your answer.

A clearer interview layout

The examiner and current question remain visible throughout the session. The room clearly shows when the examiner audio is playing, when your microphone is recording, and how long you have been speaking. Previous and next controls help you understand where you are in the test, while the main action changes with the stage of your answer.

If browser autoplay is blocked or a question recording stalls, the room gives you a clear way to retry the audio or continue with the written question instead of leaving you stuck.

Part 2 preparation built in

Cue-card questions include a 60-second preparation timer and a notes area. Jot down a simple structure, examples, or vocabulary before you start speaking, then keep those notes visible while recording your answer.

Optional camera preview

Turn on your camera if seeing yourself helps the practice feel more like a face-to-face interview. The preview is mirrored and stays entirely on your device: IELTSly does not record, upload, or save camera video. Camera access is optional, and every test can be completed with audio only.

Your spoken answers are still recorded and submitted for the usual IELTSly results and feedback. The camera changes only what you see during practice.
